Named
after Cabo Matapalo, the cape at the end of the Golfo Dulce that we pass
each day on the way to the Pacific, Cabo Matapalo Sportfishing evolved from
our experiences with our first boat in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica. We have
been fishing there since 1998 and were therefore the first ones on this side
of the gulf to benefit from the shorter access to the ocean.
In the meantime,
the initial outfit developed into a professional charter operation with
the objective of offering the most exclusive package of fishing and lodging
in the entire Golfo Dulce and Peninsula de Osa region.
Mike has been the skipper for Cabo Matapalo since the beginning in 1995. Mike is originally from Calafornia and found his way to Costa Rica via Hawaii and Mexico. He and his family have been living in Matapalo for over 10 years. Mike is one of the few skippers in Costa Rica holding a US Coast Guard Captain's license and can call on 20 years of experience with big game boats in the Pacific.
“I like to get the angler involved in all aspects of the fishing experience, from rigging some of the terminal tackle, baiting your own hooks and setting the hook on your own fish. We might miss a couple, but the reward of really catching your own fish is well worth it. So come have a blast fishing with us and let’s make some memories together!”
