The fishing excursion was amazing! We have fished all over the world and Captian Mike was the best Captain yet. The water was amazing, the dolphins, the boat, not to mention all the fish we caught!

Can't say enough about the trips we've had with Mike. You might want to call him Magic Mike. He always pulls the rabbit out of the hat on the worst days of fishing. The last Fly Fishing trip kept us hopping with all the bites 10' off the back of the boat. You name it we have done it with Mike. Marlin, Sail fish, Giant Tuna, Rooster Fish, Fly Fishing, Snorkeling, Surfing, Sight seeing, Swimming with Turtles and heck one time we even swam tho shore (and we have the pictures to prove it). Now that he has his nice wife Katie doing the scheduling he always shows up for his charters. All I can say if it wasn't for that first trip we booked with him through Lapa Rios we would have never bought our house down there. From that moment in we knew we had to have a spot in this magical place. Mike is always upbeat and kind to all his clients, young and old. We always fish as a team. No snagging and dragging. He has helped us many times and introduced us to many fine people. We have learned a lot from him and this letter is long overdue.

I’ve veen fortunate enough to fish with a lot of great captains in some of the best waters on the planet, and the days I’ve spent fishing with Capt. Mike Hennessy out of the Osa Peninsula in Southern Costa Rica rank right up there with my favorite trips. Mike has top-notch equipment, is extremely knowledgeable, and above all, he is an absolute blast to fish with. I can’t wait for our next trip!

My favorte Captain is Mike Hennssy out of the remote jungle in Costa Rica. The first time I met him I was loaded with sea sick preventatives which he promptly replaced with two local beers and told me I would be just fine. He was right and we have been fishing with him for about 10 years now. I hesitate to tell the world about Mike because I feel like he is MY VERY OWN PERSONAL CAPTAIN… The positive attitude and genuine love of his work makes fishing with him more fun that I ever dreamed. You simply cannot be in a bad mood while fishing with this guy and he ain’t bad to look at either. We have been fishing with him on small boats, big boats, calm and rough seas and I have never felt uncomfortable. His knowledge and experience and open mindedness are rare. We have followed Orcas, Humpbacks and spinner dolphins and seen so many amazing things while catching the fish of our dreams. I highly recommend that if you are fishing in the Golfo Dulce, you should be fishing with Mike. I have fished with other captains around the world, but fishing with Mike in the Osa has been a life changing experience. Just do it!
A couple of years back after catching lots of sails, rooster, dorado, tuna, I finally asked my favorite Captain, "when in the hell do I get a marlin?" This poem says it all.
Met a guy named Mike one day
He threw my motion pills away
He handed me just 2 cold beers
A remedy now for all 10 years
We’ve caught the sails and tuna too
Ate fresh sashimi til we were blue
Yeah, Captain Mike, he is a darlin,
But when the hell do I get my MARLIN???
What will I ask for next???? Oh yeah, a BLACK MARLIN!

After one of my recent fishing trips I posed the question to Capt. Mike Hennessy, where the hell is my marlin? This follow up poem says it all.
A hunter of fish and a jewel among men,
Captain Mike is taking us fishing again.
Swam out to the boat in some real gnarly seas,
Searching for marlin to catch and release.
The first trip was stormy and rough in the chop.
Before we had lunch we agreed it was slop.
The marlin and I will both have to wait
For better skies to determine our fate.
With a magic shell and a gleam in her eye
Brisa said "rub it and then REALLY try"
The winds never blew and we got it together
As Katie told us "Guys, it's Marlin weather!"
Trolling and hunting and looking for signs
Then came the beautiful song from the lines
All of the sudden I'm fighting this fish
On the other end is my granted wish.
Long story sad, we did bring him in
He was tail wrapped and staring like he'd never been
So majestic and mighty with every high leap
And now he lay like a lamb at my feet.
What have I done? I wanted to cry
Just wanted to spar, didn't want him to die
So when I go fishing and pray to the seas
I'll never forget that I couldn't release
That magnificent Marlin I'll think of as "Blue"
And forever be thankful half my wish still came true.
Thanks for all the memories Mike, let's make some more!

Texas, where else?
Mike, thank you very much for the wonderful time fishing. You and Luis made my father-in-law’s vacation. I think that he felt twenty years younger after catching his sailfish. Thanks for the memorable day.

I just sent off a CD with some pics on it, some are good some not so good. None of them really capture how much fun it is catching big Sailfish or how well you and Luis Enrique treated us! It was a an incredible experience, seeing the Whale Shark, swimming with the Pilot Whales and just simply hangin on the best boat and crew on the OSA. I also don't remember if I told you about how close I was swimming to a Sail while watching the Whales. All three of us have beautiful pics of our fish all proudly framed and the memories burned in our brains. Hoping to fish with you again soon.
